.yu domain to be phased out
The .yu Internet country code top level domain (ccTLD) was to be phased out on 30 September 2009. Originally assigned to the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the .yu domain name remained in use after the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia renamed itself Serbia and Montenegro in February 2003, followed by the dissolution of the state union of Serbia and Montenegro in July 2006, leading to Serbia being assigned the .rs ccTLD and Montenegro the .me ccTLD.
Hence the .yu domain name was to remain in use under a two year transition period although the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names has requested a six month extension.
