WEBSITE STANDARD PROPOSED FOR NZ – JUNE 2001

At the end of August 2001, the State Services Commission will submit proposed standards for government agency Websites. The specifications, based on a model used by British government departments, will use HTML as a primary format, and no Java protocol will be allowed. The standards will be mandatory for the Website designs of all core public service agencies, which will be required to adopt them by 30 June 2002.

A recent International e-readiness survey ranked New Zealand 20th among the world’s 60 largest economies, although the Government is challenging the accuracy of the Economic Intelligence Unit’s report.
