SmartSynch from AT&T.
SmartSynch and AT&T are partnering to bring smart grid technology into the US home via a communications link from the power utility to the smart meters in individual homes. The technology will be cost-effective for power companies and customers as it will use the already installed public wireless network.
Trials have been carried out in Texas by SmartSynch and Texas-New Mexico Power in Clifton, Lewisville, Texas City, Dickinson and Brazoria. The trials involved the collection of meter readings, remote service connect/disconnect, and real-time event alarm notification.
The technology will enable energy utilities and customers to be more energy efficient, and customers will be able to observe and regulate their own energy use through in-home devices and the Internet. Utilities will be able to respond quickly to customer service problems and the costs associated with meter reading will drop.
