Positive signs for mobile advertising market
Despite the business models for mobile advertising still being trialled and developed, analysts are predicting mobile advertising spending will continue to grow.
A study by Gartner in late 2009 found that global mobile ad spending grew by over 70% in 2009 and would speed up even further from 2011 onwards. This can be attributed to the growing penetration of smart phones and mobile data services, as well as an acceptance of digital advertising across all platforms.
Gartner also found that banner ads were the most successful mobile advertising platform so far, with growth also from mobile search advertisements, downloadable applications and SMS advertising.
By 2013 Asia Pacific is expected to be the largest mobile ad market, followed by North America and Europe.
