Incumbent cuts Internet tariffs in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s BTTB announced that it had reduced its Internet tariff charges by between 20% and 40% as it sought to accelerate the growth of the country’s Internet sector. Although local ISPs welcomed BTTB’s revised tariffs, they said the charges should be reduced even further and be brought more in line with those of neighbouring countries. The country’s telecom regulator, the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC), had earlier said that BTTB’s bandwidth price was still ‘abnormally high’, adding that the government planned to install another submarine cable as backup to ensure uninterrupted connectivity, thereby boosting Bangladesh’s standing as a hub for ICT outsourcing.
