Fourth mobile network to enter saturated Gabon market.

With its high GDP per capita resulting from the country’s oil wealth, Gabon has one of the highest mobile market penetration rates in Africa. Last year it became one of the first countries on the continent to exceed 100% penetration. At the same time, the network operators have been able to maintain a much higher average revenue per user (ARPU) than their peers in the region.

Now a fourth network operator, Bahrain-based Bintel is set to enter this virtually saturated market in the third quarter of 2009. It is expected to fight for market share with aggressive pricing, sending ARPU levels on a nose dive. Opportunities for the mobile operators to generate new revenue streams exist in the country’s underdeveloped Internet and broadband market.

BuddeComm has updated its Gabon report, including market analysis, profiles of the major players in all sectors, relevant statistics, and scenario forecasts to 2010 and 2015 for the country’s fixed-line, mobile and Internet markets.
