Five operators in Vietnam allowed to test 4G technology
Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MICT) has granted five telecommunications companies permission to test 4G technology. The companies – VNPT, Viettel, FPT Telecom, CMC and VTC – will be permitted to conduct 4G tests for a year. Following the tests the companies will be elligible to participate in a licence auction to obtain frequencies for new services. In the meantime, the ministry also gave Viettel, MobiFone, and VinaPhone permission to withdraw 50% of their deposits for their 3G networks, equivalent to VND3.6 trillion. The ministry had inspected the 3G networks installed by the companies and had verified that they fulfilled their first phase roll-out commitments. The companies were to proceed with the next roll-out phase and would be allowed to withdraw the remaining 50% within three years.
